A very funny thing happened at deuce on Andy's winning game. Kolya's ball was called long by the judge, but the umpire wasn't too sure and down he came from his chair. Ginge was totally knackered by then, and he just pointed to what was supposedly the mark with his racquet and said "it's there" with not much care. But the umpire didn't agree, he pointed to the mark inside the court and well, suffice to say Andy went BALLISTIC. Ears steaming, roof hitting, violence in your mind kind of ballistic.
"What!!"
"It's that one!!"
"Oh my god!"
"I can't believe this!"
I was sort of hoping he would say "You can't be serious!" ala McEnroe, but alas, I had to be satisfied with head clutching, complete and utter disbelief and so much panic in his voice it was cracking. The match alone is worth watching, just for that scene. It was that priceless. I will hunt down a video of it in youtube, here's hoping Ginge's fans would get off their asses and upload something interesting about him. Don't look at me, I don't have the kind of bandwith to upload videos, so I'm off the hook.
So Ginge won 76(1), 64. The scoreline just didn't do the match justice. I wish Kolya all the best in upcoming tournaments, he played great - unless he meets Rafa or Ginge. All's fair then.
What a win.
Oh - and to reward him, he has to play against Rafa tomorrow. Yeah. I'm looking forward to Ginge just frazzling away from nerves and throwing tanthrums on court while Rafa just looks on with that stony expression he has. Good times.

I thought the chair was still pointing to an out one. He called the ball out. I totally couldn't understand what Murray was going on about. (I'll see if I can make a vid - no promises!)
ReplyDeleteI may be wrong, but it was Kolya's ball that was called out, and the chair called it in. That's why Andy went nuts - it was deuce and Kolya had Ad after that, instead of Andy getting a match point. It happened on Andy's side after all. But my stream was crap, so I can be very wrong.
ReplyDeleteIf you could upload a vid of that scene that'd be so great! *bows*
Oh you are probably right. I was only half watching it (ended up working from home this afternoon because the skies opened up and dumped a small lake onto my house while I was home for lunch and I didn't want to open the door to go back to work). I thought the chair was saying, "either way it's out" and since he was on Andy's end, I thought the call was going his way - so I was mightily confused. Given Andy's reaction, it's obvious I was wrong, but that still didn't help my confusion at the moment. :)
ReplyDeleteN0 the ump called the ball out and it was match point for Andy. I heard the ump say "Andy Andy Andy, the ball is out." But he was going off and didn't hear that the ump was agreeing with him. Davy was smiling/laughing on the other side of the court because Andy was freaking out, not knowing that he had match point. There was no Ad for Davy and Andy won the match on the next point. The look on Davy's face was totally hilarious. And then after Andy shook hands with the ump he said he thought he called it in and the ump was like "I was trying to explain to you..." Classic freak out!
ReplyDeleteSeriously??? I'm *gasp* WRONG???
ReplyDelete*breaks down and cries*
HA! No don't cry! It was really confusing for everybody I think... and like miri said, I was perplexed bc I thought the call had gone his way so I was like wtf is he pist about?! And then I saw Davy laughing and heard the ump call "Advantage Murray" and Andy was like "Wait what?" Pfffff! It was pretty funny :)
ReplyDeleteOh. Ya that makes sense. Dammit. Will update post later. Need sleep.
