What Are The Chances?

From my post about Rafa's loss in Miami last week:
All week long his matches look like he’s just going through the motion.

From Peter Bodo's piece 2 days ago:
I didn't get the chance to write about this before, but I will now:  In his quarterfinal loss to Juan Martin del Potro, Nadal seemed mostly to be going through the motions.

Huh.

I don't know if it's a good or bad thing, me and Pete thinking the same thing, and writing it down in the same words. I don't think I wanna think about it too much.

  1. My guess? YOU are actually an aging white dude who writes about tennis for a dying mag.

  2. Of course - all those pics of me in FB are pics of some random chinese girl I stalked.

    .......

*cries* WHY did he has to use those words???

  3. Hey Babz! I have to disagree with both of you and Bodo (yikes!). Unless by "going through the motions" you mean "trying really hard even though he was frigging exhausted."

I sense that Rafa's starting to get the Federer treatment by people, which is inevitable. High performance creates high expectations.

He probably agrees with Roger, "Thank God the hard court season is over!"

I'm sure he'll be revitalized on clay.

Put it like that, I cringe at what I wrote. More so because I wrote the same thing Bodo did just 2 days ago. I'm a little weirded out at the thought.

But yes, Rafa's getting the Federer treatment. As for me, I keep expecting him not to win this and that, but then when he actually loses I make a big deal about it. Sigh. Fickle tennis fans. ;)
