JJ's A Rafaelite?

Rafanatic she is not (well maybe she is, but we'll never know will we?) so she's a Rafae-lite? Get it? Geddit?? HA! Oh shut up, self.

JJ takes offense to Roger taking a hit on players who never won a grand slam yet granted the number 1 ranking on WTA. She thinks Rafa is a better role model. For everybody, y'all.

She said she could not understand why Federer felt the need to hit out at women's tennis while his great rival Rafa Nadal, who took over from the Swiss as world number one, was so "humble".

"Why should he even care? I don't like putting my nose in other's business.

"I mean, one thing I like about Nadal is that he is such a great champion, he is so humble, always has kind words for everybody, he is a role model for everybody," said Jankovic.

"Federer is a great champion, I don't want to get in a fight with him but why does he care, I really don't understand. Why does he need to do that?"

Uh-oh. She also expresses her opinion about Roger's criticism of Nole's retirement in the Australian Open.
"I'm almost in favour of saying, you know what, if you're not fit enough, just get out of here," the Swiss said.

To which JJ says:

Jankovic said Federer should not criticise fellow players. "I don't think it's nice to attack other players.

"If he retired, he probably had his reasons, he knows better. You cannot attack someone when you don't have proof, when you don't have a piece of evidence.

"There is no reason to offend him that way."

Hmmm. I'm kinda on Roger's side in this one. To have a world numero uno who has never won a slam does not make a good impression on WTA does it? Bad publicity. About everything. And Roger is one of the ones who I think deserves to say something about Nole's retirement. He trained in Dubai in the off season so the heat doesn't defeat him in Australia. Sure, many (and I do mean many) players retired in this year's AO, but Nole has retired so many times (7 in all, 3 in slams) in his short tennis career it really does leave something to be desired. And why is JJ asking why Roger cares? Why can't he care? Tennis is his passion, it's his life.

Methinks she should've stayed quiet and work harder to win her first slam. And when she does, go over to Rodge and ask him if he's got anything to say then.

Come and listen to a story
    'Bout a man named Fed
    Poor millionaire
Had some trouble with his head
Thirteen slams, but he ran into a wall
A godlike man by the name of Nadal...
...Rafa, that is. Spanish gold. Caramel latte.

    What? No good?

  4. What I love about this is she's complaining about another player by saying that players shouldn't complain about each other...

  5. Babzo'ninetails,
More lyrics cost you extra. It requires me to think, which is something natch avoids at all costs.

    Diane,
Do what you wish with it. It's in the public domain now. :D

    miri,
That's why I lurvs me some JJ. She and Monfils are two peas in a pod. Nobody experiences drama quite the way those two do.

  6. Miri- exactly! GOD! I mean I do love me some JJ, but she really needs to back it up with a title, something, no? She's just offended cos she's also known to be quick to call the trainer too, methinks.

natch, Babzo'ninetails will pay you with favors. Indecent favors. How's that? I like this name btw. It's very kinky.

  7. I disagree on the JJ vs. Fed matter.

Sure, she didn't win a slam and all, it's absolutely true. What I hate is how Fed keeps bitching about other players. Apparently he can say whatever he wants and gets away with it, just because he's Federer.
Everyone's going "Oh, he's only telling the truth." blabla - but that's not the point. You can tell the truth without insulting or disrespecting anyone by talking ambiguous (and starting a sentence with "no disrespect, but..." is totally that).

That's why I love Rafa - he is being so smart about all this. He's always polite and diplomatic, having nothing but nice things to say about other players. I'm sure what he truly thinks might differ from what he says sometimes - but his personal feelings about certain people is his business only and he's just taking the high road.

So I think the rule applies here: If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

  8. I agree, Sonja. I watched a video (available at the old Rafa forum) of Rafa, David Ferrer, and a couple of trainers playing video game soccer. Rafa's a lot more 'type A' than he lets on, in the post match interviews. I would love to hear what he really thinks of some of the 'goings on.'
