WTA's sweetest player was only on court for 53 minutes, and most of it she spent getting trashed by Venus in the first set, 6-1. Ana won the first game in the second but injured herself in the process.
“Just when I was serving 30‑40 down in that first game, and after my first serve when I landed I just felt a sharp pain on my inner thigh and I couldn't step on my leg ever since.”
She tried to play on but it was accompanied by much sobbing on court, after play and in the press conference.
If you have been a reader here for a while you probably know that I'm not a fan of Ana. But when you see a player falling apart on court like that, even *I* feel something. I really don't know what is wrong with this girl. I watched her 2008 RG win against Dinara Safina and she looked capable of so many things. And then she crashed out of Wimbledon last year on round 3. Apparently then, it was the thumb. Then she switched coaches. And again. And now when she's not playing badly (compared to how she's been playing for the last year) she got another stroke of bad luck.
I may not be a fan of some players, but I'm not one to kick someone when they're down. Besides, all this drama is depressing and it's making me frown and because of that I want her to get well soon and kick ass when she comes back so I can make fun of her holier-than-thou image again.
On the other hand, the goddess Venus Williams strolled to the quarters.

You know I'm a huge fan of Ana, this broke my heart, the girl can seem to catch a break. I would have preffer a double bagel than a injury. First Rafa and now this, thank God for Dina. Watching Ginge and WTF?!!! He needs to get more agreesive.
ReplyDeleteYeah, not a fan of hers either but damn. Just...damn. Can't this girl catch a bit of a break. I mean, yeah she won a Slam and that's more than most tennis players will ever do, but ever since then it's been on bad thing after the next.
ReplyDeleteHope she takes a nice long break and comes back on the NA Hard Court Season with some vigor. And that serve back.
NaturAna seemed to be getting her game on track and she even thought her form was at its best and better than last year at RG.
ReplyDeleteHer toss was still a mess but she was going after her serve and hitting aces. Plus, taking out Sam on grass after she made the RG semifinals was a great effort.
I think she can turn it around on the hard courts if she stays healthy. A big IF.
Yes, this is very sad indeed. Ana has got to be one of the most unluckiest girls on the planet right now. What does she need to do to catch a break? At least her injury is not serious. Hopefully she will get things together during the summer hard court series.
