Roger On His Rafa Problem

"I don't have a problem on clay," he says. "I have a Rafa problem on clay."

Roger Federer, in an interview with LA Times.

Ain't that the truth. Big of him to admit as much.

  1. Roger has confirmed on his website that he and Mirka are expecting!!!!!

Good for them, congrats, but babies usually spell the end of one's tennis careera no?

Imagine the playdates with the Stefani/Rossdale chilruns!

  2. Thanks Neil!

Oh and, it's not the end of a career for a man. Unfair that it is ;)

  3. LOL i guess not Babz, tho it does play havoc sometimes. I'm thinking mostly of Lubicic as the example. Number 5 in the world pre-baby, and now, not so much.

I think some of that had to do also with being the president of the players union for awhile to.

  4. True dat.

We really have to look and see. On one hand I cannot see anything so important to Rog as tennis. On another, maybe if he's not getting that #14 slam he will just focus on the kid.

I think it's perfect timing, as when the kid starts school is about the time when Rog is at the age of retirement.

Babies change everything. God, I totally have a babyphobia. *sweat rolls down temple*

  5. It will be interesting to see if Mirka slows the travel schedule a little bit either pre or post baby. I don't think the baby will effect Roger negatively on the court, but he might miss the constant support of his girlfriend/family if Mirke ends up on bed rest or staying home with the kid.

With you Babz, on the babyphobia! It's funny how this news makes me feel a little more open to the idea - I'm Mirka's age, after all. . .

  6. I guess I never thought of it that way! I kinda saw Mirka taking a month old baby on tour - lol!

Mirka has been putting on weight for a while now, classic sign of hormone treatments. Tho she is young, maybe they tried before and didn't succeed, and so she went to a doctor? I think this baby is coming at a somewhat perfect timing but also precarious position for Roger.

You have a baby when you're ready FF, and not a moment before. A child totally changes everything - my mom would give you a long (very amusing) lecture on that. ;)

  7. Interesting take on Mirka's weight, Babz. I guess we'll have to wait and see if she has quadruplets (mind boggled just thinking about it!)

Ah, I see, you gave you mom some headaches, huh? ;)

  8. More like my mom gave headaches for herself ;)

Well that is what I think of Mirka's weight gain anyways. It's possible, but also maybe she's very comfy in the relationship - which is not a bad thing. Just saying most couples do gain weight when they're comfy in the r'ship.

Roger I, II, III and IV?

    Awesome.

  9. The baby will come out with a little "RF" logo tattooed on it's little bum. :D And as for the baby phobia, I'm 41 and I still have the phobia. I can say, with some measure of pride, that I have never changed a diaper (nappy.) Yay, me.
I also read that the coach that Roger had lined up, declined the position. He didn't want to travel so much . . .because he has children. I think Rog is rethinking his position, and this latest bit of news weighs for the retire column. Just my personal feeling.
