Ladies And Gentlemen, Andy Roddick.

Fighter of the tournament.

Shame it was not quite enough.

Andy played his heart out and then some. Scraped the bottom of the barrel. But Roger is, well he's RF (tm Nike). He's got tennis imprinted in his DNA. He only needed a few mistakes from Andy, a single muscle twitch, and it was all over for the American.

To put what he's done in perspective, he's played more hours on court than any other player in the tournament. And yet he still pushed Roger to a 5 setter today. That, my darling readers, is pure grit and tenacity.

He came with a game plan and it worked for 255 minutes. He literally lost at the last minute of the match. His hard work, his discipline in executing his plans deserves so much respect and admiration. Problem is he has this box of talent that he just can't bust through. His style of play is just a little outdated, a little stiff compared to what the younguns are bringing to the courts nowadays. And it breaks my heart because there are so many players out there more talented than him that are not winning matches just because they don't have the drive or discipline.

The world is a little unfair to Andy Roddick 's career and his fighting spirit. But today, he made a fan out of me.

  1. Hey Babz, question for you :) All your new blog posts are popping up in your twitter, do you do that manually, or is there a way to automate it? Cause I'd love to do that for my blog/twitter. Cheers

  3. If you're using wordpress.com then there is no way to do it automatically. If you use blogger.com then there should be a twitter plugin for it.

  4. Aw, heartbreaking to watch Andy lose. He really should've won this. How bitter for him. :(

  5. I agree....absolutely heartbreaking. I can't believe Rafa's still the only guy who's been able to beat Rog in a slam final. A-Rod was *this close* to joining the club. Devastating. He deserved this Wimby.

    :(

  6. I agree that Andy deserved this one. He's made me a lifetime fan. What a great guy, and what an effort.
Maybe that's what Rafa's absence is for: to allow us to see the talent, drive and discipline of some of the other deserving guys. It's easy to miss them, when Rafa's brilliance is in full shine.
I just feel so bad for Andy. What an effort.

  7. Definitely feel bad for Andy! I'm so happy he did well here and won't have to deal with questions about being one dimensional and ready for retirement. He definitely proved the haters wrong!

In the end, I do think both guys"deserved" the win. It could have gone either way. But there could only be one winner and Roger earned that spot in the end.

It was kind of like last year in that way. . .kind of weird when you think about it.

  9. GO Andy!
Really, I think he's one of the most hardworking players there is.
I mean it would be disappointing to have a GS drought like he did but he never stopped working and he almost got it on Sunday.
I cry tears of sadness and pride for you RAndy.
